Please take a look at the video lessons on The Scientific Way of Thinking to understand how VERA supports scientific modeling.

Nile Crocodile (795278)

Welcome to the Virtual Ecological Research Assistant (VERA)

This is a simplified model of a food web that involves Crocodylus niloticus (Nile Crocodile), Kobus vardonii (Puku), and grass (base population) generated from the Encyclopedia of Life.

VERA is a tool for modeling and experimenting with ecological systems like the one you see here, and we invite you to try it out!

In the simulation graph, you will see a stable ecosystem where Nile Crocodile consumes Puku, and Puku consumes grass.

In VERA, you can increase the consumption interaction probability between Nile Crocodile and Puku to see how it affects the ecosystem.

In order to start exploring this ecosystem, you will either need to log in if you already have an account, or sign up for one if you don't have one yet.
