Please take a look at the video lessons on The Scientific Way of Thinking to understand how VERA supports scientific modeling.

Eurasian Red Squirrel (1037909)

Welcome to the Virtual Ecological Research Assistant (VERA)

This is a simplified model of a food web that involves Vulpes Vulpes (Black fox), Sciurus vulgaris (Eurasian red squirrel), and Picea abies (Bird’s nest spruce) generated from the Encyclopedia of Life.

VERA is a tool for modeling and experimenting with ecological systems like the one you see here, and we invite you to try it out!

In the simulation graph, you will see a collapsed ecosystem where Black fox that consumes Eurasian red squirrel dies off, and then Eurasian red squirrel that consumes Bird's nest spruce grows fast.

In VERA, you can add alternative prey to stable the ecosystem.

In order to start exploring this ecosystem, you will either need to log in if you already have an account, or sign up for one if you don't have one yet.
